Multimeter and Solder Iron Question

Discussion in 'General Electronics' started by Bill Davis Jr, Nov 24, 2003.

  1. Two quick questions

    Are Grizzly multimeters good?

    and

    How about Weller solder irons?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Are Grizzly multimeters good?
Grizzly (never heard of it before) appears to be a re-branded Chinese
    item:

Weller and Ungar are the big names in irons.
There are old Curie-point type units
and newer solid state (feedback) controller types
    as well as uncontrolled types.
Which have you been checking out?

  3. Not doing anything big I was looking at the Weller WE-WP25.

Still looking for a good multimeter. Fluke's are little out of price
range for the odd job's I will be doing.

I can not buy anything local in my area as the only electronic's store
in my area closed their door for good. I now have to look on the net.

Check out Jameco for miltimeters at reasonable prices.

Nice unit. Tips & elements are replaceable.
No ESD (tip not grounded) may be an issue.

Don't dismiss John Fluke right off.
Consider a used unit (with a guarantee).
    Rich already mentioned ebay.

  7. Thanks to all that replied.

I ended buying a Weller WES51 soldering station.

I will keep a watch on Ebay for multimeters.

  10. Well yesterday I eneded up bidding on and winning a Brand new Fluke 87
III for $215. I thought what the heck it is coming to the Holiday
    Season. Why not treat myself.

There were plenty of pictures with the item. Everything looked in mint
condition. Manual, cd-rom, probes, and Calibration form all there.
Btw, when you get a new one, does the manual come shrink wrapped? As
this one does in the pictures.
