Help - a power surge blew the pants off the IC in U5 on the circuit broad for my Monsoon MH-500 (which I really like)

Can anyone tell me what IC is used here (no way to read the numbers).

It looks the same as the 8 pin IC that is in U6 (which is a 90H909).

    Thanks,

    Christi

I have attached a jpg of the circuit board...

Not sure how to insert an image.

    Thanks,

Take some isopropyl alcohol and clean the bad chip off, look very closely for any numbers that might be identical to u6, there should still be remnants of the part stamp... You might need to use a magnifier glass, and tilt the board a little bit under bright light to get a better view of any stamping... Also take a larger more zoomed in picture of just the area around u5 and u6

Well it's unlikely to be the same part as u6, so you can pretty much rule that out... Beyond that with out more pictures and/or a schematic of the circuit attempting to identify the part is not going to happen...

    Monsoon MH-500

Was hoping that someone might have the same board.

Where would you go to get just (1) chip like the 90N909?

    Thanks,

    Christi

An electronic supply house like Digikey or Mouser would be my first choice once you identify the parts and either locate the same chip or an equivalent one... But there are 1000s upon 1000s upon 1000s of different 8 pin DIP chips, you can't just start willy nilly plugging something in the circuit just because it looks similar... You need to identify the parts...

90N909 is a production or date code. The part will be much easier to find if you look for it by it's part number, TL082CN. Of course, that's not the one you need.

    Thanks for the information.

Will post the part number when I figure it out.

Can you take a clear close-up picture of the area around U5 from both sides? If it's a common part like U6 is, we might be able to identify it from the connections.

I guess you've looked for the missing bit that has the markings on it?

Why do you say U5 "looks like a Texas Instruments chip"?

I will not be able post any more photos until I return from a trip.

U6 looks like it has a TI Logo on it.

    Thanks

    Part at U5 is a TLC555CP

found another unit and checked the board.

the chip at U5 is a Texas Ins TLC555CP (97FLLCM)

any suggestions where I could get one?

    Thanks
