Hello people.

I have a Vitech monitor (DX-1564, made in Brazil) connected to a S3 video card
in my PC.

Today, I went away from my computer for a lot of time (~1 hour) and this
"triggered" Stand-By.

BUT, when I returned, nothing would make my monitor get back from stand-by!
The LED which shows if the monitor is turned on (orange color)/on standby
(flashing orange/green) was flashing very quickly.

I could listen to the Windows' standard sounds when I "blindly" launched a
program via a keyboard shortcut. Resetting the machine made the monitor turn on
again.

The monitor works correctly after I reset the system.

Tested it with another video card in another PC and the problem still exists so
the idea of a software config error is "killed".

What can be causing this problem?

Thanks!

We have lots in common, considering that we're on
different sides of the equator :)

Hehehehe. :)
This problem is usually caused by letting both bios
and windows do your power management at the same time.

I've reset BIOS to "BIOS Defaults" which resets power settings (all to Disabled)
and the problem seems to be less frequent, but it still exists!

What else can I try?

Choose one or the other; hopefully it will stop.

Take care.

Hi...

Don't have any more ideas. That fixed it up for me.

Hopefully someone wiser than I will pop in with a
suggestion, but a temp workaround might be to
disable apm in windows until then.

Is hydro expensive down there? In US dollars,
I'm in Canada, but guessing we both know US
exchange rates from our own monies.

Take care.

If you are sure that your computer is coming back from standby OK, how
about powering off the monitor? Does the display come back then?

Yes, if I manually turn off the monitor it works OK!

It is somewhat expensive (like almost everything here).
