Mitsubishi CS-35707 TV Repair for pincushion

I have a Mitsubishi 35" TV Model CS-35707 that all of a sudden the
screen became a pincushion effect. The sides are bowed in about 4
inches each. I have gone into the service mode and altered the
pincushion settings but no changes occur. Does anyone know how I can
obtain a schematic or which components need to be replaced to fix
this? A repair technician came out and said a few capacitors and
transistors need to be replaced and the cost would be about $300-330
to repair. After three days, the owner of the shop called me and said
it will cost $450.00 and they will have to pick the tv up and take it
to the shop for repair. I questioned the fact that they changed the
estimate after the technician left and he said I should get it
repaired elsewhere. Can anyone help with this? I am a
computer/printer/fax technician and can replace components but don't
know which cause this problem.

Sad news is that the shop manager found out it was a Mitz set from the era
of capacitor problems. The set does need to go in so that every single
electrolytic capacitor can be checked and replaced as needed. It is a very
time consuming job. Add the pincushion parts failure on top of that and it
is indeed a real job.

You need to start by troubleshooting and repairing the pincushion circuit
and esr check the capacitors in the pin circuit to start with that failure.
Then the remainder of the sets capacitors need the usualy esr check, visual
check, and any others that cannot be verified that way pulled for full out
of circuit testing.

It is STRONGLY suggested that you take the tv into a long established and
experienced servicer that has lots of experience with Mitz sets. Probably
an independent Mitz authorized servicer would be best. Many of the big box
stores will be more interested in selling you a new tv rather than
repairing the set. It will cost $300 or so for a complete repair.

This is a ZA chassis set from 1996 and is NOT one of the sets that has
widespread capacitor problems. In fact, these sets have been very reliable,
aside from some failures in IC6F01 which affect CRT drive levels. There is
no reason to replace this set at this point, as the CRT likely has many more
years of good life left. The service manual is available from Mitsubishi
for $47.50 retail.

There is no reason to check every cap in this set. A quick visual
inspection and a check of caps that are likely prone to failure due to
application like any other set in the shop for service is reasonable here.
It needs troubleshooting of the pin circuits and this will be difficult for
someone not familiar with television repair, perhaps difficult without a
schematic, depending on the skill of the tech.

$300 would be high for this kind of problem in this set, but that is hard to
say until it is diagnosed. More likely under $150 in our shop in
Gainesville, FL, plus an extra hundred or so for having to lift the darned
thing. Actually, we charge $70 pickup and delivery if we need to bring it
in. Normally, if the client does not bring it in, we evaluate the problem
in the field and just bring the chassis in for shop repair if we can't fix
it on site.
