Mitsubishi CS-3515R TV - No Vertical

The Mitsubishi CS-3515R in question powers up with the picture compressed to
a horizontal line half way between the top and bottom of the screen.
Sometimes, if the set is left on for a while, the picture appears; on
occasion alternating between the line and a full picture. Other times it
stays as a line no matter how long the set is left turned on.

1) Is this a pretty common problem with this set?

2) Is it a fairly easy repair (i.e. replace a couple of parts)?

3) If it is more of a shop repair, what sort of price range should the
repair cost?

In general, the set is in pretty good shape, with the exception of the
screen problem.

Comments & suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!!

Vertical output ic and a couple dozen electrolytic caps throughout the set.
ESR all the caps in the set and change any that are questionable. Should nor
run over $100 for the job but make sure that the service company is familiar
with the MGA sets and their symptoms.

If you take the set into a servicer and have only the vertical problem
fixed, typically under $135 total repair. If the set has mulitple failing
capacitors due to age that should be replaced, the cost will be a bit more.

If you have the field tech come to your home for the repair, add around $65
more to the cost of any repairs.

It is strongly suggested you find someone experienced with Mitz sets for the
repair.

Do you do these with a couple of dozen caps for under $100? How? If you
are really going to check all the caps, repair the corrosion on the traces,
clean up the weak solder joints, and replace a couple of dozen caps, I think
most shops would be charging at least twice that. I do lots of these and
rarely find that many bad caps on a 3515 (later sets have more leaky caps,
these have far fewer), but wouldn't touch one if the customer was only
willing to put $100 into it.
