Minolta Camcorder 18R Repair

I have not used this camera in 5 years. Now the record button no
longer activates. I was working perfectly in the past. Can anyone
advise?

Is the record protect tab on the tape intact? The unit will not record with
it removed.
Otherwise, you may need to take it to a repair shop.
