I am using a microwave oven motor 110v to rotate a small plexi disc, as in the face of a clock. Its a small load. After a few hours continous use in same direction it starts to make a kind of scraping or dragging noise. Does anyone know if in principal these motors won't handle continuous use?

It would not be surprising if a motor out of a microwave oven was not designed for continuous use.

I would suspect as BobK mentioned, that the laminations in the motor may be overheating, warping them, and causing the scraping sound.
