I need to use a lipo battery to power my project and be able to plug my C cable in to move data to my Tiny 2040 and while the C plug is plugged in it would charge the lipo battery. I purchased the Adafruit Micro-Lipo Charger for LiPoly Batt with USB Type C Jack thinking it would do what I needed. I wire it up and the lipo wont power my project but im able to move data using the 5v, D+, D-, GND as I wanted. Why is the lipo not taking over power when I unplug the C cord? Below is an image of the adafruit board and lipo, in my hand is the power/data C cord that would be plugged into my Tiny 2040.

Looks like it’s only a charger. Specifications don’t mention it will switch from charge to battery use.
You can put your own switch in there to either charge the battery or power the device from the battery.

I was afraid of that... Do you know of a board that would do what i want OR you mentioned adding a switch, first how/where could a switch be added and second, do you know of a charger/lipo that i could purchase that would do what i need?

Look up "LiPo power bank module". Here's an example.
These usually have two USB connectors:
1. Micro USB for charging
2. Standard USB for powering a load.
You don't have to use the Standard USB port, you can solder wires to the relevant pads instead. Works like a charm.
