Hi!

For a project I'm looking for LEDs which can be used to create the same
display
as shown here: http://www.smellsnew.com/art/led3.html

Does anyone know which strength this could be? Or maybe give a
indication?

Greetings Roxlu

I imagine any superbright LEDs 5000 mcd or greater would be fine. The
brighter the LED however the more you will pay.

You'll also need some way of diffusing the light from the LEDs since most
have a fairly tight beam thats often difficult to see from the side.

Yes, but then the diffuser would reduce the mcd value ... in which case
he might as well get a wide-angle (120 degree) LED with a lower mcd
rating.
