Can anyone please help me in using the part LT1246, ie as to how the
part can be connected in a simple circuit, how to test its working and
anything related to its working as there are no such things available
in the data sheet provided by Linear.

Why are you looking at using it if you don't know what it can do ?

    Note: "Pin Compatible with UC1842"

There's no shortage of application circuits for that part.

The part does just about exacly what the simplified schematic suggests
it will. The big difference is that it goes insane if you force the
control voltage (pin 1 IIRC) within about a diode drop of ground.
    Don't do this.

The "up to 1MHz" is a bit of a stretch too. They get way too hot
    doing that.
