I recently bought this item from eBay. Notice it includes an extension line:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-2A-Po...?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item3a694ba4f6

Now I'm going to supply power in a different way... but I'd still like to buy some of those extension lines separately. However, I'm having a really tough time finding them online!

Here's one that almost does the job... but it's only got a 1A current rating - I need 2A:

Found a few cables for CCTV cameras but none of the suppliers specify the current rating (I have emailed to ask):

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-POWER-...-/170730028928?pt=UK_CCTV&hash=item27c04d7f80

Believe me, I've searched and searched. Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms. Can anyone help?

    hi there
    welcome to the forums :)

the other choice would be to make them yourself using an appropriately gauged cable to suit your needs :) not too difficult to do

Do an Ebay search for 'barrel extention' and cut off the appropriate end...

Also confirm the barrel connectors are the same size that you need, both inside and outside diameters...

FYI the current will be dictated by the wire gauge and length of the wire...

    Thanks for the ideas guys.

I had considered finding my own cable and connecting the sockets myself, but guess what - I had trouble finding the cable too! Everything seems to be sold as 'audio cable' or some other application. How do I know the cable I'm buying is suitable for DC? And can you recommend a brand or supplier?

My only concern about buying a ready made cable and then cutting one of the ends off, is that some cables are made from that stuff that is impossible to solder (don't remember what it's called right now). Any tips for finding cable that is definitely hackable?

Normal 'speaker' wire will be fine for this application, assuming it's the proper gauge...

In your case anything larger than say 24 gauge will be fine, aka any wire gauge of a lower or equal value to 24... You should have zero problem finding 14, 16, 18 or 20 gauge speaker wire over the counter at just about any store that carries wire, all will be suitable for 12V @ 2A unless you are running over huge distances...
