As a backup to my PV system, I recently purchased a used 5 KW
generator. The price was right, I could not pass it up! After
exercising it, I decided to look at the sine wave. Boy was it ugly.
I thought all alernators produced a clean sine wave. Guess I'm wrong.
In reading the manufacturer's manual,they say for solid state devices
like home entertainment centers and HD TVs, I should use a line
conditioner. Now this can be anything from a passive filter to a full
UPS system with sine wave output. Gee, I just did that!
My UPS is only 1 KVA so its out as a line conditioner. Besides I'd
rasther have two independent systems. So the question is, does anyone
have a proven LC circuit for line conditioning? I envision a pi low
pass filter or something like that. Other approaches? Any help out
there?
