Despite many entreaties my teenage son still insists of having the audio volume far too high in his car. Could I limit this by wiring resisters in parallel with the speakers without damage to the amp - eg if the speakers are a nominal 8 ohms would it be ok to wire 8 ohms resistors across the speaker terminals?
    Thanks

It would be more like ~20 ohm resistor in series to each speaker. Until he finds out and bypasses them

I would wire 2 ohms across each speaker, then he will blow the amp and your problem is solved!

Or a 1000V supply to the volume knob.

Or remove the keys from the ignition.

if the amp is expecting to see 8 ohm speakers and claims an RMS max output of 500 watts

get 16 ohm speakers capable of handling 250 watts RMS, and wire 16 ohm resistors (or near equivalent) capable of dissipating 250 watts across their terminals

making, the amp split it's output equally into a noise producer on the one road, and a heater on the other road, I'm thinking mr kirchoff here

I am not an AC expert though and music is basically AC?

miladdo will find out and reverse engineer the reverse engineering in no time though lol, aye

you could remove the knob ,or you could super glue the volume control to a reasonable setting

On a more serious note, we would really need to know more about the system he has in place. There are a few methods available, depending on what he has.
