Level Conversion Between CMOS And RS232

Discussion in 'General Electronics' started by James Harlacher, Aug 16, 2003.

  1. Hi,
I am trying to find a CMOS chip which can perform conversion
between RS232 and CMOS levels. I've heard of the MAX232 chip but
havent found documentation and I dont know if it is CMOS or TTL. If
anyone knows of such a chip, or if the MAX232 is CMOS, Id appreciate
    the info.
    Thanks,
    James

look (amongst others cause many deliver that ic) at www.maxim-ic.com for
datasheet of max232. (also can order some samples there)

TTL can drive cmos so no problem there. Ohter way around use open collector
outputs with pull-ups to +5V for the TTL

    hey ,
max232 performs ttl to rs232 level conversion. But are rs232 levels compatible with cmos levels?

you can use max 232 to convert to TTL logic , which is as good as the coms logic
