So recently I bought an lcd screen controller board along with a respberry pi to re-use an old laptop screen.
To power it I bought a 12V 5A power supply. The problem is that when I power the whole thing, it works, but the controller board starts heating a lot, to the point where it slighly hurt touching it with the finger after ~20 seconds, so I turn it off.

My question is is it normal? Did I do something wrong about it or is it already working as intended?
Thanks in advance!

What part of the board gets warm?

There is the main controller IC and I can spot what looks like a regulator to the side of it. The regulator may get warm to the touch to the point of 'hot' but unless it gets TOO hot to touch then it's probably ok.

If you're overly concerned then measure the actual current consumption and see if it is acceptable.

Hello, sorry first my late reply.

So I checked again and it's getting hot from here

Also I forgot to say it but I'm a total noob at electronics, I just wanted to re-use my screen.

Thanks!

That is a power device, probably a voltage regulator. It might be normal for it to get hot.

If it becomes an issue you can always stick a small heat sink on it.
