Laptop lid sensor...

Hi.
Posting here because it is... well, a sensor.
Does anyone know how the lid closing is sensed in a Compaq CQ57 (Or similar HP 630, HP 635...)

My previous laptop suffered of intermittent display from wear of hinged wiring; and I used a magnet placed on top of the sensor to put it to sleep avoiding more screen hinge wiring deterioration. Now cannot find how to fake lid closure on my 'new' laptop.

One can usually get access to service manuals for laptops quite readily and freely.
Try manualslib dot com, or just google compaq cq57 service manual.
It should come up with a manual you can either view online or download for future reference.

Thanks. Ran a magnet everywhere and nothing. Looked for replacement parts and nothing. Looked inside its description and nothing

I thought there was a little plastic pin (switch plunger) sticking up through the bezel along the bottom edge of the screen and it just pushed that in?

The area corresponds to Fig. 2 on page 7 at the first link where a board is shown. Or the wired white part at Fig. 1 at page 12 on the display bottom.

Who says it has to be magnetic or that the switch is actually operational or some other fault?
I would tend to open it up and take a peek.

maybe you misunderstand what he wants to do ?

there's no fault, he just wants to simulate standby without closing the laptop lid, as he did on his old laptop

why are you just not using the power setting to put into sleep mode after a period of time ?
that's easily done in system settings

Thanks, fellows.
Closure of lid works well, just of unknown action principle. Opening the unit is risky as something else can become wrong, prefer looking at existing data/images or ask for experiences.
Setting is for 10 minutes, sleeps well.
If not mechanical and not magnetic/Hall, what other methods could be in there ? Saw a wired board at the keyboard area and another wired module by the display bezel; much more than a magnet.

The power switch board has a tact switch, a LED and the surface mount black component has to be a Hall sensor. It is at the left side of the keyboard, not at right as shown in the manual. Confirmed with a magnet

Found it !

That prompted me to look for the lid-close-sense magnet on my Lenovo Z50-70. It's at the bottom left corner of the display area.

Most I've ever had just requires a push pf the power button to do same thing as close the lid.
