Laptop Compaq RC3240CA - Power failure

I bought a Compaq laptop. It crashed 2 month after the warranty
terminated.

A repairmen said to me than I must replace the motherboard $$$.

I inspected the motherboard and I found a small surface mount piece
broken. No inscription on the piece. I found the component name is
PL1.

All PLx are place in a large PCB track (alimentation).

The resistive is less than 1 ohm.

It's not seem to be a regular link or jumper because the alimentation
track is not seperate by another track.

What's this piece?

Thanks.

I changed the piece by a simple wire and I'm waiting the next crash.

After your mod did the thing work? Waiting for the next crash is not
definative.

Possibly a molded ferrite power filter that smoked.

Probably run just fine by jumping it but you might be able to find a
replacement on an old mother board, modem card or PCB from a hard disk
drive.
