KV36XBR400 dead

Someone wants me to look at their Sony KV36XBR400 which failed and now only
makes a click and degauss sound when turned on. Obviously a power supply
problem, is this something that's common for that set? I'd like to have an
idea of what I'm in for before I go over there and tear into the thing.

James,

Don't assume a power supply problem. There are lots of protection circuits
in these units. The first thing to do is to find out what the led on the
front panel is flashing for a diagnostic code, if any. Next, you need to
get a copy of the training manual and the service manual. The service
manual alone may not be much help.

These sets have been pretty reliable. The power supply design is solid, but
fixing it can be tricky until you understand how it works and how the
protection works.
