Hi,
Before I go out and buy another CD player, I wanted to check on fixing
this one. The problem is that it will not spin the CD when it is
inserted. I have disassembled and cleaned it and watched it operation.
The CD gets sucked in, the faceplate readout shows CD and the play
button arrow illuminates but no spinning happens. I have applied 12v
directly to the motor and it spins fine. There must be some circuitry
failing to apply the voltage to the motor. Has anyone fixed this
before or have an idea how to fix it. Thanks for any replies.

You would have to verify if the servo amp is working, and if there is proper
operation of the laser to begin with. The laser reading is checked on
initialization.

You will need the service manual, their calibration CD, and a very good
scope to start following this up. Also, you will need a parts source for
your unit. Kenwood is okay with their home consumer products when it comes
to service manuals, and parts. Their auto radios may be a different matter.

Why not find out who in your area is servicing these, and get an estimate
before blowing you money on a new radio? It may be a simple IC or part that
they are aware of, and the cost may be not expensive. The service manual
price alone, would probably cost as much as the labour to fix your set.
These manuals are fairly expensive.
