I'm trying to service a JVC VCR Model #HR-S9500U that keeps shutting down
whenever you push the power button on with or without a tape, it does not
matter. The display will flash to "AUTO" after 3 seconds of pushing the
power button on. I have made sure that the parental control is not enabled,
I have verified that all the sensors are working properly, I have verified
that the power supply is working properly and have checked all electrolytic
caps in the supply, I have also verified that both belts are in good
condition and the mode switch is good too. The VCR will accept a tape and
once it is in position to play,
the VCR shuts down. I have a service manual for this VCR and so far haven't
been able to find the problem.

This particular model is also similar to a HR-S4500U and a HR-S4700U VCR
according to the service manual that covers all three models.

I have seen previous posts in this NG with people experiencing the same
symptoms that I am experiencing and have also seen this problem posted in
various tech forums, but so far I haven't been able to find an answer. If
there is anyone here who can give me some clue as to what is wrong with this
VCR, I would surely like to know!!!! Thanks for any assistance you can
offer.

On the HR-S9500U, sounds like the Dynamic Drum is not so dynamic. (Joke).
The DD drive circuit is not initializing and moving the drum motor on power up
and is probably causing the unit to shut down. Usually one of the gears on
the bottom of the drum assy unit is worn. They do not sell them separately and
you usually have to replace the whole drum motor assy.
Don't know about the HRS4500U unless it uses that ridiculous same circuit.
The HR-S4700U is a much older unit and not anything like the HR-S9500U. Hope
that helps.
PS...I'm not talking about drum drive circuit. The Dynamic Drum causes
vertical movement of the drum motor in special effects operations.
