JVC VCR dynamic drum?!

Hi,

JVC vcr topclass SVHS machine, model HR-S9700,
It features what is called a "dynamic drum", and I can see a small dc motor
and gears just under the drum,
looks like it's possible to adjust position of the entire drum???
Is that possible, and what is the meaning of that?
If you know this model good, maybe you've got some useful advice for me!
(Giving fault description later, in that case!)

It can turn the heads so that you can get good picture when you are
rewinding (or FF). Simpler way of saying this is that it keeps the heads
correctly aligned to the tape at all times.
