JVC 27" Repair or Replace

I have a 2 year old (out of warranty) JVC AV-27D202 set with a
problem. The screen is incredibly bright even with the brightness
turned all the way down. It also has 20-30 tilted lines with 3 very
prominent lines at the top of the screen. This occurs at random times
either on a cold or hot set and occasionally goes back to nearly
perfectly normal after a few hours of being on (though the top 3 lines
are always noticeable). Anyone know if this a simple and CHEAP problem
to fix. I don't have any experience in this matter to do it myself, I
would bring it in to a shop. Any thoughts or advice welcome.

TIA

I would suggest that you do as you said you would do...... "bring it in to
a shop" for at the very least a repair cost estimate so you can make an
intelligent decision with facts instead of internet or telephone guesses.
An experienced tech will at least have to SEE the symptoms and maybe perform
some preliminary basic troubleshooting to provide you with an accurate
diagnosis and repair price....... kind of difficult to do over the internet
or telephone..... BRING it to a shop.
This is not something that can be fixed without the proper test equipment,
repair knowledge/experience, and replacement parts..... might be fairly
straight forward to fix but not for a novice do it yourselfer.

This can be the high voltage multiplier module, or components on the supply
side to the screen grid of the CRT, or a fault in the video drive circuits.
The multiplier is part of the flyback in most sets. In the worse case, it
can be a short in the CRT itself. You should take the set for an estimate,
in case the fault is low in cost to service.

You are going to have to take the set into a reputable shop for proper
diagnosis and estimate in order to make an intelligent decision as to
whether to fix the tv set or not.

From your description the repair could be anywhere from a minor one to
a big major repair. 90% of repairs on a tv set that size if you take
it into the shop come in well under $100 total parts and labor, easily
worth having fixed.

Sounds like voltage to driver transistors, faulty cap in supply from line output
usually abt 160~180 V

It probably can be repaired, however it is difficult to determine the
cost of repair from your symptoms. The voltages should be checked on
the crt socket. You can take it to a repair shop for an estimate, but
it may be rather pricey.

my guess-

it is in the screen grid ckt.
Usually not a pix tube after 2 years, but the symptoms act like an
internal short, coming and going.

take to shop for estimate.
