I ask because I have looked everywhere for a forum on camera repairs,
with no luck.

I have an Olympus d-100 digital camera (Camedia, Brio) that has NEVER
been dropped or mis-treated in any way but it has "Just Died"?

I'd venture to say that I have taken a maximum of 200 shots with it.

Its out of waranty because it has been sitting around the house (in its
case) for over a year.

At first it would act strange by coming on for a second or two, (after
you open the shutter) and then go dead. At first I thought it was the
batteries by the way it would act.

Now .. Its just DEAD with brand new batteries.?

Thanks Everyone

Actually the best resolution would be to contact the manufacture and ask where to send it for repair, highly probably they will tell you what the exchange cost will be regarding the item. An associate of mine had a Canon S series that one of his children had forced the lens assembly back into the case. Canon explained that the item was out of warranty due to the type of damage but they did send the folk an brand new camera at no charge. Each company has their own procedures regarding this. Again, may be best to contact them. Cheers!!

First of all, these cameras are serviced mostly at the modular level, not
the component level. The adjustments and setups of these are very critical,
and require the proper equipment and training to do so.

These camera manufactures will not sell parts or service information to
outside service people. You will have to give them the camera for service.
You should first tell them the history of the camera, and see their
reaction. At worse you may have to pay for an estimate to know what is wrong
with it, and see how much they will charge for the repair if they will
charge you at all. Many times, these camera companies are very good with
their clients.

I have been involved in camera servicing under a contract for another
manufacture of cameras. They were very propriotory, and were very critical
to not sell any non authorized parts or service information. These
manufactures are mostly all like that. As I mentioned, if the camera needs
some adjustments, you will not be able to do that at home yourself.

I have an Olympus C990 that went dead as you discribed. Found that the Memory
Card flap activates a power kill switch that went faulty. You could check that
first.
