Hi, I have recently dug out an old infra-red helicopter that is broken. What I want to know though is, is it possible to use the helicopters IR receiver in a different circuit (in my case with an arduino) and also if it is how do I identify it ? (sorry if I'm asking a stupid question I'm a total beginner ! )

I'm sure it's possible to do what you suggest. The IR detector diodes are easy to identify, most would look like 3mm LED's. But then there's the challenge of finding the amplified signal on the circuit board.
I have a couple of heli's but none are broken yet and I haven't disassembled them yet, so I can't say how easy it it to find the right spot. An oscilloscope would surely come in handy though.
