9-10kHz is still in the human hearing range.
I think you need something above 20kHz (mybe 22kHz some young children can
hear sounds above 20kHz).
But some of these sounds are used to call dogs, and that's not what you
want I think.
So only when you make a very loud utrasound, it's not the sound itself
which scares them, but the loudness, (maybe loud-pulsating ?), since most
dogs are sensitive from 50Hz-40kHz, I would use about 35kHz.
But you might just scare away lots of animals that way, and some asmatic
baby's might freak out too. (asmatic children can sometimes hear up to
35kHz!).
There are other ways too, but that's a bit off topic, I did some workshops
with Michael and Treeny Roads, they teach you how to communicate with
animals, and it does work, I never had any problems with mice or insects
anymore since I'm using these techniques. (
