I have a dandy schematic for a bandpass filter usable in sound effects on stage. Trouble is, the op-amps they call out are RC4136. My NTE catalog doesn't offer a substitute. Can you help? ( I'm uploading the schematic.)

That's cuz its a Texas Instruments IC ;)
The RC4136 is just a general purpose quad opamp, nothing special about it

they are still available from several outlets
But if you cannot get one ....
A TL074 type will most likely work but why don't you try a newer style opamp OPA4134. Pay attention to the difference in pinning.

cheers

It's indeed a general purpose op amp, but if you don't want to play with the pinout the part is still available at few places, as stated by Dave:

http://be.mouser.com/Semiconductors/Amplifier-ICs/_/N-4frvm?Keyword=4136&FS=True
http://be.farnell.com/texas-instrum...ad-gen-purpose-4136-dip/dp/1106011?Ntt=RC4136
http://www.digikey.be/product-search/en?x=0&y=0&lang=en&site=be&KeyWords=RC4136

farnell is for professionals only but don't apply a shipping fee, the two others are for anybody, shipping fee is applied and is country/purchase amount dependent

How does Farnell know if I'm a professional as opposed to (say) a pet cat?

Aaaah. OK. It's optional here to have the equivalent if your turnover does not exceed a fairly significant figure.

Yes clearly the aim is to have a fairly significant turnover. Unfortunately it can so be a problem for hobbyist to source some "rare"parts.
There is a gap between "local" shop as radio shack, Jaycar, Maplin... and large companies who even stock 10K resistors in 100 flavors.
Can be an idea by the way to add a list on electronicspoint with the various components dealers with country, offered range, ....information's
