its a big problem to use reflectors on the opposite side; often the module will need be installed above the door in which case the reflector would need be on the ground. Not possible...
Our approach is to sense reflections; there has been no problem at all with the different reflectivity or dogs, cats, etc. we have tested this with all sorts of colors and it was always possible to get clear signals of the sequence. Only remaining issue is the noise on the receiver...With software we have taken this completely out (signal. noise patterns are very different) but I can not be sure the noise pattern will always be different that the signal one. Thats why we now try to shield the led to eliminate the noise
