Most of my stuff these days seems to include AVRs.

I've been doing electronic stuff on and off since the 70's as a hobby.

I like projects that get a lot out of simple stuff, that's the appeal of AVR, I enjoy the 8-bit simplicity and getting a lot of performance from it.
