Identifying Cracked Diode on Mecedes Key Fob

Just though I would throw this in-
My corvette has a key with a resistor imbedded in the shaft.
When you insert the key.
The car read the resistance and if it matches the software set, it allows the car to start.
You may be up against something similar hear.

Well it didn't work. Maybe the microprocessor is hosed, I don't know. We are exploring other avenues, could be any one of a hundred things keeping my friends car from starting. I might try my luck over on the Mercedes Benz forums to see if anyone has more info on testing the functionality of the smartkey. Thank you all for volunteering your time to help me figure out the broken diode issue. I'm not sure that was the original problem since my friend had put the remote in front of a heater and got it way too hot I'm thinking that may have been what cracked the diode and there may have been something else that was the original problem.
