Components don't blow up by themselves. Whatever caused that may have damaged other components.

DSB79,

RE: Your measurements before...

((" Hi,back again with the values.
Starting with red probe this is from the good diode out of the circuit:

|

1 2

Values

1,2 - 1
2,1 - 1
1,3 - 1
3,1 - 0,755ohm
2,3 - 1
3,2 - 0,755ohm "))

For future reference, whenyou come across a zener diode, these are
the readings you will most often see.
1.xxV one way and 0.xxx the other way. using diode check on our digital meter.

If you are having a problem finding a part to ship is cheaper, I can order the part at
Digi-key and get it for a couple of bucks on USPS and then drop it in an envelope to you for a couple of bucks. May be a cheap way to go.
I can also research it for you for your area too.

Also, if you bought common cathode and installed it, it would be shorting out the circuit. You can see why by looking at the web link I sent you earlier.
If you put the correct part in maybe you will still be okay. Not sure now....

Well, let me know. Best regards, Jamie7

i think you are right, in the mean while i have replace the bad diode by this one http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/BA/BAV70.pdf but maybe i have to follow your advice and replace this by the one you post here.
After i replace the diode the battery continues to not charge, do you think if i replace by the correct one i a have a the problem resolved?

If you do this for me and ship to portugal how much it will cost?

Regards.

Greetings,

If you did not cause any damage by putting the part in you referenced, it may still work.
Basically, the part you put in shorts out the circuit, because it is forward biased instead or the opposite direction.
The correct part is protection diode and it is like a zener and clips the high voltage if it rises to protect the circuit.
I will look and see how much to send there. You will have to give me a zip code so I can check on mail cost. In the mean time I will check digikey and get cost to send part to me (Qty. 2 or # you want).
Let me know zip code and any info for completion of this shipping.
I will post $ for getting parts to me and then we can figure cost to get it to you on
regular postal mail. (cheapest way). I will NOT charge you for my time for doing this......
Let me know that you got this post....

Greetings,
I went ahead and ordered 5 of these units.
The price for 5 was $1.40
The shipping to me will be $1.81 - $2.00.
Total to get them to me $3.21 - $3.40.
If you decide not to get them do not worry about it.
You will owe me nothing. I will use in some project.
This way I will have them when you are ready.
Only cost left is from my zip code 67669 to yours on
1st class mail, parcel post, etc....

Let me Know, Jamie

Additonal info: The shipping is about 1 oz. =$1.05 2 oz. = $1.90 3 oz, = 2.79 on USPS to Portugal.
Looks like worst case cost is about $6.00. (if shipping cost good as per internet USPS ship calculator)
Remember also, that your original problem may still exist if there is a high volatge problem.
Or, if you caused more problems by putting in your replacement part you referred to.
You will just have to try one of the correct parts and see if it is okay and go from there.
You will have extra protection diode pakages should you burn it out.
If it still doesn't charge you will have to do further troublshooting.

Greetings,

I have sent packages to China for others before.
You need to put your address in the form that looks
just like you would put on an envelope in your mail.
I am not familiar with the order of the address.
For example:

Jamie xxxxx
124 xxxx st
Stockxxx, Ks 67339
USA

That way I can get it correct and the parts will not get lost in mail.

Regarding how I found them..... Maybe luck, but I am super good at
discovery and finding stuff on the internet. I just have a knack for it.

Well, the parts are on the way to me today. I just received confirmation.

Let me know on the address. :) Smile!!!

Best regards, Jamie

Yes I got it and I will let you know when I receive the parts
and put them in the mail for Ya... :)

Have a nice weekend ahead and good luck on your repairs.

By the way, the protection diode starts to clamp just over 6 Volts,
so check to make sure you don't have a high voltage at that point.
If so, you will need to remedy that before you can expect the device
to survive.

I'll be in touch, write back when you want.... Jamie

Diogo,

If I am not available after you get the parts, most likely Steve or CocaCola can
help you further on the toubleshooting.
Otherwise I will need more info to help you find the problem.
If there is a switching power supply involved, it may not be switching and
a high voltage may be present and putting the new parts in will just fail.
Or, whatever is not working is/was destroyed further and now no voltage is
present.
We'll just have to wait till then.
If you want let me know the model and s/n of the unit and perhaps I can find
the schematic or more info also..

Diogo,

Parts are going in mail today to you.
You should get them soon.
Not sure how long it takes in regular mail.
If you need other parts later, we can repeat process.

Good Luck, Jamie
