    good morning all, I'd like to build some type of indicator that would activate an LED or bulb that tell me when I've lost main power, 120v 60hz. Preferably even for an instant, light to remain on even when power restored. Even a point in right direction to get me started is much appreciated, thank you all..../gary

    Mains Neon indicator lamps are very cheap and consume no current (to speak of).
    They come in a simple panel mount holder.

    A relay which is started with a button, and will drop out when the mains fails will do. Such a system is used in motor starters. If you need an indication when the mains is off, then a battery will be needed.
