Hi all,

I have the following problem, I need to convert the linear range from
0 to 5 Volts in a measure of weight (from 0 to 9999 tons) displayed in
a 4 -1/2 digit 7 segments) display and I was wondering if a Voltmeter
rightly tuned could do at job.
Does anyone know any IC voltmeter able to drive a 4-1/2 digit (or
more)?

Thanks,
Ciao
Eugenio

ICL7135, with external display driver. There are others, such as
ICL7129 with on-chip LCD driver.

I know there used to be such a thing, but for this application,
you'd be much better off to just buy a panel meter. If you can
live with 0-4999 tons, you're home free - otherwise you'll have
to scale it, which isn't all that hard. Use a 5/1 divider to get
a 0-1 (or 0-.9999) volt range, and strap the decimal point to the
right.

Or, in other words, yes, a voltmeter "rightly tuned" will do it -
again, a 5:1 divider, and scale it "in your head."

Good Luck!
