IC-PROG and .HEX files

Hi!
The present available very good Bonny Gijzen utility to program many
serial micro's do not cover the new PIC models like 16F688 or 16F716,
but also others. Now, binary .HEX files can be exactly the same under
certain conditions .
For example, I can select model 16C716 and write the model 16F716
instead. Does anybody confirm this possibility? Maybe it has already
been discussed, however thanks in advance.

this is reason i simply got my self the Pic2 started kit that includes
all the goodies, there is a remark there about a firmware update so that
newer pics can be done. my old programmer which has a zif socket in it
decided to stop working for what ever reason.
