No, you need to have some way of matching the panel output to the
inverter load on an instantaneous basis. In general, you need a
battery to tide you over the instants when the load is greater than
the supply.

not really, as you'd lose power when a cloud gous by. the battery keeps your
devices going even when the sun isn't shining. the bigger the AH of the
battery, the longer the run time.

450 watts of pv, with 5 hours of sun, will charge a 300 ah battery enough to
run your inverter for 5 hours, assuming the battery starts out fully charged
(5 hours of sun).

You can in fact do this. If you have enough output from panels to run
the inverter then the inverter will run. Electricity does not care.

Of course if you do not have enough sun things will stop working.

things may stop rather rapidly if (1) the inverter has no load, (2) the sun
shines brightly, (3) the inverter has overvoltage shutdown.
