Spent just over two weeks there. Got snapped 3 times by those
invisible speed cameras. Totaled fines --- $150. Demerit points nil.

Go figure? One of those fines in Bris would have cost me $90 and 1
demerit. Lucky for me the bris speed cameras stick out like bulls
balls. I'm movin' to WA!!! There laws are lame, the real estate is
cheap and the live pub scene is brilliant. Shame about the local beer
though. I guess you cant have everything.

Perth is a nice place, nice beaches, nice parks, nice climate, GREAT soccer
team, so so AFL team. There is little night life to speak of. Perth is not
great but it is nice.

I've lived in Perth all 22 years of my life and it pretty good here.

Geez, I haven't even been *back* to Perth for 22 years. Has it changed? :)
Must pay a visit....

I wonder, as you did not loose any demerit points, does that mean they do
not use taht system over there?
If so, you should be a licence from WA and you would never loose your
licence with points,,
All you would need is a mate who lives there, go for a holiday, tell the
coppers, you now live there, at his address and cool.. drive without having
to fear that you are going to loose your licence for doing 2 kilos over the
limit as in Vic

XXXX tastes a lot better then that green shit that the swan brewery
turns out. I drank Cascade the whole time I was there cause it was the
only decent drink I could find. Dear as poison though.

Different system here in QLD.

That does suck. Mind you, WA has double demerits during the holiday
periods, which we do not have.

Real estate cheap in Perth? Where? In back of Kwinana, maybe.

Still, Perth's lovely if you like living on a hot, dry, dead-flat infertile
sand plain 1000s of kms from civilisation. I lived there as a teenager.
Never again. Family still there -- they love it, but it's more a case of
cognitive dissonance.

Pluses: Kings Park and the CBD, Swan/Canning Rivers, SW scenery.

You were probably drinking Cascade Pale Ale, the best domestic Cascade
product, and also the most dear. Why don't you try Cascade Draught, a
very nice beer but cheaper than Pale Ale. Most sensible Taswegians drink
Draught and love it!

I was drinking Cascade Premium. Not a bad beer. I'm more a fan of the
pilsners, adequately provided by several of the small boutique
breweries located in the swan valley. The Feral brewery in particular
provides a fine pils, likewise so does the Little Creatures brewery in
Freemantle.

Everywhere! I was looking at real estate within 10 minutes of the city
that is half the price of Brisbane. Going further out, still within
30-40minutes of the city, you can get beachfront properties from just
over the 500k mark. Compare those prices to Sydney...you cant.

Both my wife and I have a lot of family there too, so a good
business/holiday trip was quite enjoyable

I'm into sailing and water sports and the south/west coast are just
brilliant for that. The public boating facilites in WA are probably
the best I have seen too.

Probably because he was in PERTH when he was in Perth (doh!) and Cascade draught
isn't exactly the fastest moving line here in the west - in fact I've never seen
it here.

If you're will to go as far north as say morley, dianella or embleton,
there are still property available for under 300K, it won't be a 1/4 acre
block but they are still 3-400 m^2 in size. The futher west you go, the more
expensive it gets, places such as subiaco and its surrounding areas you're
looking at about 400k. I'd wouldn't got further east than Maylands, it starts
to get industrial from there. Don't know much about south of the river in term
of prices, but they seem to generally be more expensive. For suburbs near
freeways, you can be as far as 20km from the city and still be within 10min of
driving.

Personally I live in Bedford, a tiny little northern suburb with a median price
around the 270k mark. Its situated near a major shopping centre(the gallaria)
and is within 15min of the city, there are 3 major arterial roads going through
it, and has about 5 bus route. There are many schools and parks near by.
All in all, its a pretty good place.

Two years ago I bought a good block of land in my town (1/4 acre on a hill)
for $3000.
I'm in the southwest of WA but I'm not going to tell you where I am.
Surrounded by forest, a river, and our high school has one of the best
ratings for getting kids into university.
