I have this LED display that salvaged from a thrown out dvd player. I want to use this with an arduino to display numbers. How do I wire this? Can someone post a schematic?

Also if you can tell me how this thing works maybe I can figure out the wiring myself :)

Thanks in advance. Have a great day!

I am going to guess that it is either a common cathode or common anode display wired as follows;

1 pin for each of the 7 segments
1 pin for common (anode or cathode) of each digit
1 pin for the two colons

Take a 9V battery. Connect a 1K resistor to the +.

You now have two leads, the other end of the 1K resistor and the - lead from the battery.

Try connecting these to any two pair of pins. If nothing lights up, reverse them. Keep doing this until you figure out pins correspond to each segment and each digit.
