How to determine Neutral/Live from transformer output

    Hi

    Recently I received 110VAC pneumatic Solenoid Valves from AliExpress, though I had ordered for 12VDC. To save time I decided to use them but here we have 220V 50Hz.

    Since the solenoids are very small, I planned to wind a small step down transformer. The question is how do I identify the neutral and live wires from the 110VAC output of the transformer? Or I just connect any one wire directly to the solenoids and the other wire thru relays?

    There is no neutral or active until the output is referenced to ground.
    Your final guess is correct.

    If you wind an auto transformer then neutral in = neutral out.
