Hello everyone and Merry christmas.

I have this strange question. In the past i accidently shorted the rs422 output of a driver chip and it got damaged. can i avoid it by placing a fuse in serries ?
how much current can a typical rs422 driver deliver before it gets damaged ?
I try to figure out if i can protect an rs422 driver from being damaged due to short circuit with ground.

Thanks alot !

Not really an expert at RS422, but Google is a really helpful guy to have round.
https://www.electronics-notes.com/a...data-communications/rs422-basics-tutorial.php
Says RS422 specifies an output current of 150mA

The fault protected MAX14775 says it protects at 200mA.
The MAXM22510 says it has an output short circuit current , min 30mA, max 250mA (@12 volts supply)

Seems the popular answer on the hits I got was "buy our output protected devices". :(

Hmm that looks helpful. I thought it would be around 50ma. TI pdf's also state 150ma max driver short circuit to gnd current.

What about rs232. Havent found anything yet.
