He's spammed every group that I read with that. Thing to do is complain to Ebay, for
all the good it'll do.

There is somebody posting this sort of thing to numerous
newsgroups, but each item is on-topic. The poster seems to use a
different name for different newsgroups.

For example, "Ned" keeps posting links to coin auctions in
rec.collecting.coins And an interesting thing there is that some
of those coins might be misrepresented, severely overpriced, or
fake.

Then, after the action is finished, the poster follows up,
announcing the sale price.

I see two possibilities. Either this person is a shill, trying
to draw attention to sleazy auctions and drive up the bidding.
Or s/he is subtly warning about the dangers of such auctions,
with a sort of "Look at what that sleazebag is selling," followed
by, "Look how much somebody got taken for."

When they can be purchased for around $850 elsewhere, it makes you wonder if
the "winner" even bothered to look around for a good price.

Hey, I have sold a number of things I simply wanted to get rid of for more
than retail. God bless eBay; only the foolish get hurt.

I can't argue with that - anyone so foolish that they don't shop around and
find the best deal deserves to pay the price they pay. I remember many
times I was looking for various computer parts and after seeing a price on
Ebay, I would check Pricewatch.com. Pricewatch frequently showed me a much
better price. I went with pricewatch.

Ebay, like taxes, is a penalty imposed by the mediocre upon the
stupid ;)
