Hello All

I am looking for a supply of Holtec HT82M98A mouse controller chip
preferably in the UK. I only need 6 but have been unable to find a
supplier who can provide such a small quantity to someone in the UK. I
have tried Holtec and it's UK distributors without success. Can anyone
help.

I know about this type of problem. Do you know of any low cost mouse on the
market that can easily be bought that uses this chip? If so, maybe you can
by these mouse's, and remove the chip for your own use. Since you need only
six, this is not going to be a huge undertaking.

The cost of distribution is very high, especially for a part that is not
commonly demanded in low quantities. Also, the mark-up on these types of
parts is very low. If they sell you a small number of them, the cost of the
sales, and billing can easily exceed the mark-up and margin of total cost. I
see this in our business all the time. This is why they want a large minimum
order.

Thanks for your suggestion but I have tried it already. I found it was
often very difficult to find out which chip a mouse used. The type of chip
doesn't have to be HT82M98A it just has to be one that supports; ball type
input with both USB and PS2 output and 3 buttons. I have been unable to
find this in a budget mouse. If anyone knows of a budget mouse that does
please let me know.

Yes. This is the problem I have been meeting. My hope was there was a
supplier somewhere who would be able to help even if I had to pay 5x or 6x
over the bulk price it would still be cheeper than buying a suitable mouse
for the chip.
