    Capacitors bad. Look inside the comb filter and pip modules.

    Just to add an oddball I just ran across. We replaced def smps reg IC, caps,
    etc from lightning hit in the same model. Customer calls back a couple of
    weeks later with a similar complaint of banding and lighter area on screen.
    Turns out the screen assy itself is bad. When removed for cleaning and held up
    to light, the same symptom as when the TV was running appeared.

    Hitachi has had a problem with their screen assy's made during that time;
    usually shows up as a lighter colored area around the outer edges of the
    screen; only fix is to replace the fresnel
  5. Could also be dust between the screens like happens on the Pioneer sets. I
    have heard of similar problems on the Hitachi and Sony screens.
