Herd instincts?

That is one way of looking at the situation.

Another would be to look at the academic merits of of the socially
conservative professors who aren't doing as well as their more liberal
counterparts.

The Enterprise Institute isn't really competent to do that kind of
study, and in any event its conclusions probably wouldn't suit the
people who fund the Enterprise Institute.

It is noticeable that physically conservative professors who still
believe in phlogiston and the ether are also under-represented in
university faculties, but since their invalid theories aren't useful
for transferring money from the poor to the rich the Enterprise
Institute hasn't any interest in demonstating that universities go in
for "physically correct" groupthink in staffing their physics and
chemistry departments.

Economics is different. Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine" ISBN
978-1-846-14028-0 has some interesting things to say about the
"politically incorrect" Chicago School monetarist economists whose
major claim to influence is that their advice - while disasterous for
an economy as a whole - produces results that make money for the very
rich, at the expense of everybody else.

Oh man, I'm reading that too! I can't finish it from the bad taste it
leaves in my mouth.

So you think the "Chicago School monetarist economists" are wrong? How
have they damaged YOUR economy other than to knock down the pricing of
peasants ?:)

There are news groups for political discussions. This has nothing to

I am a regular lurker on this news group. My primary interest is in seeing what
sort of questions that people have about electronics. I have gotten tired of the
various political postings. You seem to be a major source of this stuff.
My suggestion is that you want to have a political discussion then go to
a political news group.

So why are you doing political postings on news groups that are supposed
to be electronics oriented?

Because I am the Guru Grande of All Things Electronic. Between
questions from the paisanos I post political injections... someone has
to set the world straight ;-)

Winfield Hill wrote the textbook, and Don Lancaster wrote the popular
electronics book - this leaves Jim somewhere short of guru grande,
even around here. Jim has designed some interesting circuits, but
nobody who knows what they are about buys them any more - Barry
Gilbert's stuff works better and is easier to use.

Once Jim gets away from electronics, he's just another ill-informed
right-wing tax dodger. His enthusiasm for the Republican Party is a
little pathetic, because he's not rich enough to get any appreciable
advantage out of their screw-the-poor economic policy. He does pay
less taxes than he would under a more equitable regime, but he'd still
do better in the long run under a more equitable regime because a well
paid, well fed, healthy and well-educated working class gives you a
more productive economy.

I think its on one of the robotics newsgroups. Or perhaps its just a
similar rant. All of the "liberal educators are out to get the
conservative" arguments look so similar its getting hard to tell them
apart.

For the same reason the circus sends out the little car full of clowns
between the main attractions.

Well, why should they be different, if it's the same topic?
