    Hey guys,
im fairly new to electronics, ive drawn this diagram up and put it together and it seems to work fine.

is there anything wrong with this circuit? can it damage my PIC or any other components?
    Cheers, Shane

Apart from the fact that we would normally draw it flipped left to right (the source of signals is typically on the left and the outputs are generally on the right) it looks fine.

You don't show Vdd, but I assume that's connected.

The power you can switch depends on the rating of the transistor and the amount of base current you can provide. If you need to switch heavier loads then you need to investigate mosfets.

Thanks for the reply, that's good news.

Vdd is hooked up to 3 AA battery's.

The main concern i had was that the PIC ground is connected to the ground of the 9 volt battery but it doesn't work if i don't do that, should i be worried?

    Cheers, Shane

No, that is exactly the correct thing to do.
