Hey guys so i was testing a PSU cord plugged into the wall socket. I know i probably did something stupid for this to happen but i was following an online guide, it told me to set my multimeter to 200 ACV so i did that, then i inserted the black lead to the ground and when i tried to put the red lead into one of the vertical plugs it arced HUGE, scared the crap outta me. what did i do wrong?

obviously grounded something you shouldnt have ;)

take a couple of sharp well lit pics of the way you wired it up so some one may get an idea of what you did wrong :)

My guess is that the red lead was plugged into the socket marked 10A

My second guess is that you shouldn't be playing with the mains.

another thing is it was set at 200 ACV depending on your country your mains could be 240volt. so it might be too much for the multimeter at that setting.
either way rule number one with mainsvoltage is just don't touch it until you know what it is about. and hopefully you have a safety switch on thatcircuit that saved your life.
