I have old SLV-620HF and recently it has shown problems-
it doesn't eject tapes well. I opened the cover and cleaned
all tape pathes and blew off dust. Oops I blew off yellow
sponge wrapped on rubber roller that is in front of head
drum. What is the part # or name of the sponge?
Do I have to replace the whole rubber roller?
Could you help me out to replace it?
What is the most problematic when it doesn't eject
tapes well? How can I fix it?

I really appreciate for your opinions.

Elise.

Not to worry, this is the auto head-cleaner. They really don't do much, just
a selling feature. You're better off without it.

Describe the eject problems you're having.

Thank you Patch.

Well, without the yello sponge VCR works fine?
I'm worrying the rubber roller touches the head drum.

I recently confront tape eject problem.
I inserted a tape to check its play function
since my friend complained for not playing.

Playing was fine, but I couldn't take the tape out.
I tried to use remote and eject button on the unit.
Both didn't work. I forgot it for three days and
contacted SONY service. It costs, at least,
$90 plus shipping.

Then I wanted to fix it myself since new unit
is less than $100-new models are not good
like SLV-620HF though.

I unplugged and re-plugged the power cord.
I could take the tape out without any damage
on the tape.

After that, I stopped using the VCR.
What is wrong with my unit?
Do I put some lube?

Thank you again.

That chassis was made by Funai. The biggest problem was belts slipping while
trying to eject. You need to put in a belt kit. As to the auto-headcleaner,
I usually just remove the entire device, foam pad & all. You should be able
to buy a replacement from the site listed below if you want to replace it.

Don't worry about the rubber roller.... without the "yellow sponge" on the
roller..... nothing will touch the head drum. If worried, you can remove
the little plastic lever that holds the roller and remove the roller
too...... even when working the auto head cleaner is just about worthless
anyway.
There is something wrong with your VCR..... and DO NOT "put some lube" to
try to fix it. More than likely there is a problem with the gear
timing.... damaged gear or cam...... dirty mode switch...... bent
lever...... etc.? ?
At the very least you should TAKE your VCR to a service shop for a repair
cost estimate so you can make an intelligent repair decision with facts
instead of internet or telephone guesses. While many larger shops have
gotten out of the VCR repair business there are still many small,
independent shops that do this kind of work fairly economically and can
probably fix your VCR for a fraction of the $90 price that Sony quoted you
and you won't have to pay shipping both ways if you take it to a shop
yourself.

Patch and Sofie,

I really appreciate your replies.

BTW, do know any good shops I may go in Chicago (IL) area?
Or before going to any repair shop, is it good to replace
belt kits?

Thank you very much.

Elize.
