Help: Sony/Dell Monitor Vertical Problem

Hi, all. I have a 21" Sony-built Dell monitor, model number D1626HT, part
of the UltraScan 1600HS series. Monitor works, but the vertical size is
WAY too big, and the side pincushion is bowed in. The pincushion
adjustment doesn't work.

Focus, HV and horizontal all appear normal. I checked the power supply
voltages (which are marked on the board), and they were about right.
Nothing's over normal.

It's a solid failure, and tapping on the boards and such doesn't change
anything. I'm guessing the vertical output IC is bad, but I don't really
know. There are some power ICs and transistors on a heatsink along one
side of the scan board.

Anybody have service data or maybe someone's fixed one of these before?
Any help is appreciated. Seems a shame to toss this rather nice, big
monitor, which is only 4 years old.

Thanks.

Michael

I would say that there is more of a chance that there are defective
capacitors in the vertical deflection amp and pin amp areas. I do not have
tech information on your model to tell you details. If you check all the
caps with an ESR meter, there is an excellent chance you will be able to
determine the bad ones.

Thanks! I figured it was something like that. Any idea where I can get one?

MCM looks to have the best price

Make sure you rule out other possible causes first
Replacing this IC requires above average soldering skills to avoid
destroying the main board

I'm a skilled former VCR tech (from the days when they were $800 and worth
fixing), and I can change the chip. However, without service data, I don't
know how I could rule out other problems, since I don't know what's
supposed to be there. Is there something specific I can look for on the
scope that would confirm if the chip is bad?

Thanks.
