As subject... I'm trying to locate a 2mm 5x1 header for connecting to
the IR-input port of an SBC. Please look at http://www.larwe.com/2mm.jpg
which shows a good connector side-by-side with the closest I've yet been
able to find. The good one is white. The bad one is black. You'll note
that the locator tabs are in a different place (this isn't so bad, I
could force it in..) and - harder to notice - the pins are in a slightly
different plane, which is a total show-stopper.

The black connector is a Hirose DF3-5S-2C, Digi-Key part# H2086-ND (at
least, that's the part# for the housing; the pins are a separate SKU of
course).

The SBC vendor is naturally being no support at all, they simply say
it's a standard connector. I'm happy to believe it - the question is,
whose standard? This type of connector is frequently used on CD-ROM
audio cables (that's where I scavenged the white one) but I can't get a
part#.

Any ideas where I can look?

Hi,
Assuming that you are based in the US, you could try Z-world (
http://www.zworld.com ). They use these connectors on their SBC's and
development modules.
Another possible source for these connectors is Harwin, a UK based firm. (
http://www.harwin.com ). They may have a distributor where you are.

Hi Freddo,

I did not see Lewin's original post, so I will respond here.

Hi Lewin,

Try Digi-Key again. Search for part number H2014-ND

2mm housing, 5-position, crimp connector. Appears to be unpolarized if that is ok.

This is the catalog page they are on:
http://dkc3.digikey.com/PDF/T041/0061.pdf

Hope that helps,

Tim

Hi,
Try Digi-Key again. Search for part number H2014-ND

That's not the right mating connector, unfortunately- it would fit but
it doesn't have sufficient positive locking to survive our environment.

Thanks to a well-informed email, I have identified the manufacturer
(JST) and the part# (PHR-5). It is Digi-Key part# 455-1163-ND, matching
pin is SPH-002T-P0.5S, Digi-Key part# 455-1127-1-ND.

Thanks all!
