on the spoofing claim my ISP does not have a proper mailserver aimed at
their users maybe that lebanon one hase something to do with the
bandwith provision :)

Can you explain why your IP address is shown as belonging to Terranet in Malta
though ?

regarding wifi and high range i am using a CISCO router with a parbolic
antenna and a glorified cantenna

What's the power level ? " cantenna" ???? that's a new one to me.

Simple because my isp is terranet in malta :) and not lebanon

Cantenna ( use google is a canister antenna with a yagi in it for a
direction this is aimed at a parabolic antenna obviously it is done
with meticolous calculations.

it is a Wifi based upon the 54mbps protocol becuase i was experimenting
i did not want to destroy 108 router better one which is stroung enough

I am new to electronics but want this as a hobby

So my IP lookup was right then ?

Why don't you try news.terra.net.lb then ?

I just tried it and it answers with a request for a username and password like
it should ! So it works and it's probably free for you. Just use your normal
username and p/w. Do you need advice about a proper newsreader ?

802.11g I presume ?

Good luck !

Password did not work - i asked the customer care team :)

108 is a new type of router that can accept power on lan through
wireless its damn expensive and its reserved for cisco specialists.

Do you like Wi Fi?

I've had that problem with *one* other news server. Maybe you need a different
p/w for news ?

Btw - I'll recommend *Netscape 4.9* for news ! ( search Netscape's archives )
The 7.1 version is still ok too but more clutter imho. 4.9 is simple and
effective with no clutter.

OK.

I haven't actually used it ( I'm hard-wired here ) . My interest in 2.4 GHz is
for wireless audio.

Ok - Later.

My email here is valid ( although somewhat unusual - an anti-spam measure) btw.

hello guys any idea on amplifying WiFi 2.4Ghz Signal?

high gain antenna?

-- a 2M reflector would probably get you an imporessive improvement.

trying to amplify the signal inside the wires will likely run you up
against the laws of the land, or of thermal noise, dependinbg which
end of signal the path you do it at.

Bye.

Hi OP,

Simply I'm guessing that you're having wifi issues with a PC and your
router. If you are...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160001834473

Those 3com cards are totally excellent. Recently I've just bought a
newbuild house, the ones where instead of woodframe walls with plasterboard
and plaster on them, they now put up a metal mesh (Faraday cage??) and
plaster straight onto that. IT IS an ABSOLUTE bloody nightmare with all
things of a radio nature.

I've been through the Belkins, the BTs, and some other cheap thing that I
was assured was marvelous by the salesman. In the past I've had good
experience with 3Com kit so went with the exact model you see in that eBay
link up above. It works!! Either because 3Com are building decent kit, or
because the others are simply crap from the very beginning in the first
place. Alot of the wifi kit out there isn't very good to be honest.

But on the subject of 2.4Ghz and long range. One of our guys had a wifi
network running from Cambridge Science Park right across Cambridge by about
2 miles not far from Addenbrookes (a long way!!). The aerials were like a
long metal rod with lots of equally spaced washers on it. Who knows if this
would work now with the amount of wifi about but it worked then (about 5
years go, 802.11a???). Maybe this gives you a few ideas to look into.

:)

Antennas are quite good solutions and repreaters would result in having
sparsed boosters running around in diverse locations but it is
important for me to discover the implications of such circuitry used to
amplify merely for curiosity and for developing and type of repeater
and beacon for wireless devices :)

Regards to All

Parabolic, Canantenna, Yagi Antenna are quite good and impressive
