Because it's important to propagate it for the public record in order to
resist the DMCA takedown notices being issued faster than buttered lard down
a ski slope by the MPAA.
Except that it is the OLD key and won't even work on the new discs!

Bwuahahaahahaha!

You pussies make me laugh!

Really? How do they propose getting their hands on thousands of HD-DVD
players to apply a firmawre patch?

EVERY (that's ALL for the slow) HD DVD player has an ethernet
connection.

Since the new disc(s) would NOT play on the old key, the user would be
REQUIRED to update, and the updated patch WILL play the old media.

Do I really HAVE to go hunt up the fucking link for you?
The only people who will get buggered are the people who watch HD-DVDs
on Windows and their collection becomes worthless after the latest
'patch Tuesday'.

After I get done, there will never be another pirated work of IP in the
world, if it is on an Optical Disc.

**** ALL pirate whores.

I think the MPAA need to learn about King Canute and recognise that they
have as much chance of keeping this one quiet as they have of holding back
the tide.

How long before some of the DVD-cracking gurus get the code tatooed on their
bodies - the ultimate in permanence.

This reminds me of the story (maybe an urban myth) about an illegal
immigrant to the USA who got the algorithm for some encryption technology
tatooed on his body. Because it was illegal to export the algorithm outside
the USA (and certainly to his native country), they couldn't deport him
without contravening that law.
Solution: slice off that section of skin and graft from another part
of his body.

It being MPAA, it shouldn't, should it?

Peugeot's new 'supermini' was not allowed to use the number 007 because of trademark

But they could hardly do so without his consent - the lawyers would have
a field-day!

For Prison Break season 3 will Michael get locked up in a prison made out of
HD-DVD discs? :)

You are about as "right thinking" as a freshly laid turd.

Hello, brainless retarded horse shagging child molesting twat from the
lesser region of the Isle of Man.

Why are you replying to me as though I posted the link, then slagged
it off. You think I did both?

Heres laughing at you

No offence

Fair enough. Just save the the hex for later. You might even be able
to get simular hexes in a hex mag for portability.

Although King Canute knew he couldn't hold back the tide, he did it to
prove that he was just an ordinary man. ;)

There's 2 issues there:

1) You can claim copyright on a number - after all what is an MP3 file, but
a long number?

2) I think they are saying it comes under some section of the draconian
Digital Millennium Copyright Act - so they may not be claiming it is in
itself copyrighted, but it can be used to circumvent copy protection and
hence cannot be published under the DMCA.

Not quite that simple. It must also be a creative
work. I think the song is the creative work and
gets the copyright. The number is the "physical"
embodiment of the work. After all, you don't really
copyright the groove geometry of an LP when you
copyright a track.

EVERY (that's ALL for the slow) HD DVD player has an ethernet
connection.

And what do I do with this ethernet connection? I have no ethernet.
Since the new disc(s) would NOT play on the old key, the user would be
REQUIRED to update, and the updated patch WILL play the old media.

Required? I've got a money-back guarantee. If it quits, I take it back
to the store and get my money back.

It appears that this HD-DVD scam isn't a great business model for the
local electronics shop. Maybe that's why they don't carry very many.

There's a (not so mythological) case of a foreign national here on an
H1-B visa who managed to get onto a DoD project with a local defense
contractor.

He essentially has permanent residency now, since sending him home at
the end of his visa would make him available for employment with the
likes of the Iranian nuclear program for example.
