    Hi,
Does anyone know of a hardware (semiconductor) MP3 encoder? Or even a maybe
a PIC MPU can be programmed to do the job?

  2. Cool idea, you could perhaps take open source lame encoder, strip essential part
    an prog in PIC?
    40MHz enough? Not sure.
I have heard about an Altera FPGA project.

    No.
Well, yes, with enough external RAM and ROM, and a couple of years

  5. Take a look at this site: http://www.frankvh.com/mp3player/index.html

He uses a 16Mhz AVR uC.
